A party bus rental can be an ideal way to save money on any event, concert or celebration. Gathering a group of friends together and hiring someone else to drive you around will save you an enormous amount of time and worry. You don’t have to designate a driver, and you don’t have to worry about parking fees (if you can even find parking!).
Although the driver is doing his job and he gets paid for driving you around, you should still consider tipping him at the end of the evening. Some people don’t like the idea of tipping (because it is his job after all). However, the driver is providing you with a service and deserves to be tipped at the end of a job well done. Most service employees enjoy the benefit of tipping (think hairstylists, house cleaners, etc.) and party bus drivers aren’t any different.
Tipping is a personal decision, but here are some things to consider about whether or not to tip your driver.
Did he provide courteous and friendly service?
Was your driver polite and courteous throughout the entire trip? Did he make you and your group comfortable and at ease? A good driver doesn’t need your whole life story, but he should engage in some conversation and ask questions to ensure you have the best trip possible.
Was he on time?
This is absolutely essential if you are to have a stress-free evening. You don’t want to be late for your event or celebration because the driver wasn’t on time. Luckily, most drivers are very professional and will likely show up a bit early.
Was he professionally dressed?
A party bus rental is a bit more informal than, say, a stretch limo for a wedding. However, your driver still needs to be dressed appropriately. Ripped jeans and a t-shirt is not what you want to see. Clean, nicely tailored clothing will suffice, and he should look groomed and ready to go!
Did he know his way around the city?
You want a driver that knows his way around. Getting lost is not an option, and it’s not easy trying to do a U-turn on a party bus! Most drivers are equipped with a GPS, and you can also map out the route ahead of time and give it the company; they will then forward it to the driver ahead of time.
Did he drive safely?
Did you feel safe and comfortable on the trip, or were you hanging on for dear life? Again, most drivers are very competent, and the safety of their riders is of the utmost importance. They should not be speeding, or driving recklessly.
How much to tip?
If you feel you’ve had a good experience with your party bus rental, then it’s probably a good idea to tip your driver at the end of the night. Etiquette experts recommend tipping 15 – 20% of the total fare.
Tipping is a gesture that lets the driver know how much you appreciated his service and that you would do it all over again.
